Team Member spotlight: Matt Magowan

Our #TeamMemberSpotlight for March is Matt Magowan!

About Matt

Matt Magowan has been with the Tryon Solutions and Cycle team for three years, and currently serves as our Principal Solutions Architect in Test. That is a fancy way of saying  he facilitates customer engagements from estimating through seeing the project to completion across several projects simultaneously.

Matt Magowan Team Member SpotlightMatt's career began when he was 17 and signed up for the Army National Guard in high school. He joined the infantry and would later take a role in the signal corps where he learned basic IT skills, grew his strong work ethic, and eventually managed a small team. In parallel, he was working for the United States Coast Guard help desk in downtown Saint Louis while also in school. Nearly a year later, he accepted a role as a WMS administrator for Genco-Hershey’s where he was first introduced to Blue Yonder WMS. It was at Genco-Hershey's that he was able to grow his technical skillsets that would later serve him well at Tryon. For the next few years he worked in various capacities primarily on BY WMS developing tools that would make day to day management more efficient. Later, he applied to Tryon for to join the WMS services team as an engineer. He adds, "I’m not exactly sure how it happened but I ended up becoming one of the first few engineers to solely work with our Cycle platform in its infancy. The experience alone has been amazing really. I sincerely say that."

During his tenure at Tryon Solutions and Cycle, Matt has quickly earned a reputation for being extremely reliable, always willing to lend a hand, being the best dressed on Zoom calls, and always being sure to help lighten the mood. Those who report to Matt describe him as an empathetic leader who cares and gets it done. He is also known for being great at granting opportunities through tactical delegation. As a people manager, Matt loves how rewarding it is when his teammates succeed at the individual level and watching them excel past their own expectations.

Matt's Move The Needle Moment

Matt has spent considerable time developing and supporting numerous internal tools from how we estimate work to what we standardize on our customer engagements. Our customer’s don't usually get to see all of the amazing tools we’ve put together while working hard for them. While delivering an automation tool is certainly important, it’s critical that there are efficient standards in place to continuously grow after each engagement. These have helped with impressive time savings that, no doubt, moved the needle. Additionally, being a member of the team that helps influence standard and develop tools to make our own team more efficient is one of his favorite things about his role at Cycle.

Matt Outside of Work

When Matt is not at work he enjoys playing board games with friends, badly he admits. He is a firm believer that Mint Chocolate Chip is the superior ice cream flavor, which has inevitably led to him gaining, what he refers to as the Covid 19 (pounds). He loves rewatching The Office and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. In addition, home automation is a growing hobby of his, and his weekends tend to fly by working on a new home automation project.

We are so grateful to have Matt on our team!!!
